Post-holiday Shopify stack audit: seven apps to reconcile in January
After peak, reconcile review, UGC, loyalty, search and chat apps—what each bill counted and what overlaps. We make Idukki.
Your Shopify admin still shows eleven apps pinned from October. Three were “temporary” for BFCM. Two bill on order bands you crossed in December. One duplicates what Shopify Search & Discovery already does for free. January is the month to <strong>reconcile the stack</strong> before spring replatforming quotes land. We make Idukki; this audit focuses on the seven app categories that fight over the same PDP pixels and the same customer data.

Quick answer
- Audit reviews, UGC/video, Instagram feed, loyalty, search, upsell, helpdesk—in that order.
- For each app, write what the bill counts and which SKU surfaces it touches.
- Kill overlaps before you add 2027 social proof roadmap initiatives.
- Compare against free Shopify stack for new stores before re-upping annual plans.
1. Review app
Pull December invoice and order count. Did you hit a Loox band or Okendo tier? See Judge.me vs Loox vs Okendo and the eight-app review test.
Audit questions: Video reviews enabled? Syndication to Google still valid? Q&A module used or dead weight?
2. UGC and shoppable video
If proof lives in a separate gallery app, list which SKUs have clips vs which only have static reviews. Run the 12-question shoppable video score sheet.
Overlap flag: Loox photos + Idukki gallery + Instagram feed on the same PDP triples JS weight—pick jobs per social proof by job guide.
3. Instagram feed app
Feeds beautify the footer; shoppable galleries belong on PDP. Decision tree in Instagram feed vs shoppable galleries and the eight feed apps guide.
4. Loyalty
Smile or LoyaltyLion points do not replace UGC—they fuel it (Smile vs LoyaltyLion). Check whether points-for-posts is configured or still on the roadmap slide.
Full category review: best loyalty apps 2026.
5. Search and discovery
Shopify’s free search app covers basics; paid search bills on queries or SKUs. Read search and filter apps guide.
Audit: Did holiday traffic expose slow filters? That is a revenue fix, not a UGC fix—budget separately in 2027 budget split.
6. Upsell and cart
Rebuy, AfterSell and Zipify overlap on post-purchase. See upsell apps guide. If UGC appears in upsell modals, confirm rights cover paid placement.
7. Helpdesk
Peak tickets may have pushed you into Gorgias overage. Compare Gorgias vs Tidio. Tag tickets that mention “photo review” or “UGC consent”—product feedback for March roadmap.

| App | Monthly $ | Bills on | PDP? | Email? | Keep / cut / merge |

| Feed | views | Rarely | N | ||

After the audit
Sequence fixes: compliance and rights (2027 checklist), then PDP placement (January PDP fix), then replatform if needed (30-day parallel run).
Use UGC ROI projection to argue keepers to finance—one merged app beat three overlapping bills.
Why seven, not seventeen
January discipline: if an app does not touch reviews, UGC, loyalty, search, upsell, helpdesk, or feeds, it waits until February. These seven categories cover every pixel where social proof fights cart upsells and support macros.
Overlap kills speed
Each app adds JS. December proved lightweight UGC matters at peak; March proves it matters for SEO and AI crawlers too. When two apps render photo grids on the same PDP, cut one before you tune copy.
Finance conversation script
“We are not removing social proof—we are removing duplicate bills.” Show:
- Current monthly total across the seven categories
- Proposed keepers mapped to 13 apps for 7 jobs
- Projected savings reinvested into rights labour or shoppable video tests (14-day layout test)
When to keep a “redundant” app
Keep overlap temporarily if migration lock-in (annual contract), unique syndication (Google, Meta), or enterprise SSO on helpdesk. Set a calendar kill date; do not “temporary” for nine months.
Next step after audit
Sequence: compliance (2027 checklist) → PDP placement fix (January PDP element) → roadmap one-pager.
Timebox: one working session
Block four hours. Hour one: export invoices and order counts. Hour two: PDP screenshot audit on ten SKUs. Hour three: scorecard and keep/cut list. Hour four: finance email with savings and reinvestment plan tied to 2027 budget.

Seven categories, one afternoon, fewer surprise renewals in March.
Merchandiser interview (15 minutes)
Ask: “Which apps do you actually open each week?” Unused admin seats and dashboards are cut candidates even if PDP still shows a legacy block.
Document the keeper stack
Publish internal Notion: app name, owner, bill unit, PDP/email/ads surfaces, renewal date. Link October free stack guide for baseline expectations on a lean store.
