The cost of siloed reviews and UGC apps: what the invoice hides

Separate reviews and UGC tools look cheap on paper. The real cost is double moderation, lost media and a second theme install. We make Idukki.

Finance sees two neat lines: a reviews app and a UGC app. Marketing sees two inboxes, two theme apps and a photo that lives in neither gallery. The invoice is the tip. The week of ops under the waterline is the bill.

We make Idukki. This guide is about the cost of running reviews and UGC as separate products. It is not a claim that every store should buy us. Some stores are fine on a reviews app alone.

What the demo shows, and what you pay for

What you actually build and maintain

  1. Two moderation queues

Hide the same off-brand photo twice.

  2. Media left behind

Review photos never reach the gallery near buy.

  3. Theme and script debt

Two embeds to retest after every theme edit.

  4. Rights records split

Consent for a social post sits in one tool only.

  5. Exit and rebuild

Two CSVs, two widget removals, one messy week.

Illustrative cost layers. Your hours will differ. No measured hours claimed.

Where the hours go

A buyer photo arrives as a review. Someone approves it in the reviews app. Nobody adds it to the UGC gallery. A week later the same product needs a rights ask in the other tool. The same person context-switches twice.

None of that shows as a line item. The gallery stays thin. The reviews widget still holds forty thumbnails at the bottom of the page.

Media loss: the quiet tax

Siloed stacks lose media in three common ways:

  • Review photos never climb above the fold into a shoppable gallery.
  • Social posts never sit next to star ratings on the same PDP.
  • Video lives in one tool as a still frame and in another as a clip.

You already paid to collect the file. Losing its placement is a sunk-cost problem. It is not a content shortage.

Fee versus work: an illustrative split

Where a siloed month often goes (illustrative)

  • Two app fees
    Invoice tip
  • Double moderation
    Largest weekly drag
  • Theme / QA retests
    After each edit
  • Rebuild risk reserve
    Exit week later
Not measured data. Bars show a planning sketch of relative weight. This is not a study. Use your own timesheet.

If your timesheet disagrees, trust your timesheet. The point is to price the waterline. Do not copy these bars.

When separate apps are still fine

  • Almost all customer photos arrive as review media, and that is enough.
  • One person owns both tools and the queues stay small.
  • You are not planning a second storefront platform.
  • The reviews plan you already pay for includes the gallery you need.

For the choose-path questions, see reviews app UGC add-on vs a dedicated UGC platform.

How to cut the waterline without a big-bang cutover

  1. 1Keep the reviews app collecting. Import photo and video reviews into the gallery tool.
  2. 2Put one shoppable gallery near the buy button on your top ten PDPs.
  3. 3Moderate new media in one queue for two weeks and measure the time saved.
  4. 4Only then decide whether the second display widget can shrink or go.

Judge.me, Yotpo, Okendo and Loox can stay as collectors while a UGC layer displays the media. Idukki imports Judge.me and can read other review sources. We disclose that because we make the display layer.

Questions buyers ask

  • Is one tool always cheaper?

No. A reviews app alone can be enough when review photos are your only media. Keep it if the gallery sits on your current plan.

  • What is the first cost to cut?

Double moderation. One approve path removes the most weekly minutes.

  • Do I have to cancel the reviews app?

Usually no. Keep it for invites and stars. Move photo placement into one gallery.

  • Where do Idukki prices sit?

On /pricing. Plans bill by widget impressions. Free covers image galleries up to the published cap.
