# Shoppable photo review galleries with hotspots

Turn review photos into a shoppable gallery with hotspots and add to cart.

By Rohin Aggarwal · 2026-10-31

A customer photo shows your jacket, a belt and a bag. The review widget opens a lightbox with stars and text. There is no way to buy the belt. The shopper screenshots the look and leaves to hunt SKUs by eye. The proof did half its job.

**Quick answer**

- **Treat review media as UGC.** Same library, same tags, same cart drawer.
- **Put hotspots on the items in frame.** Not only a single product chip under the photo.
- **Keep the review attached.** Stars, text, variant and verified mark travel with the image.
- **Place the gallery near the buy button.** A lightbox at the page bottom is too late.
- **We make Idukki.** Collect, tag and shop from the same posts.

We make Idukki. Photo and video reviews land in the same library as social UGC. Tag products, place hotspots and let shoppers add to cart from the post. This piece is the merchandising pattern for review forms and upload pages alike.

## Why review photos belong in the UGC stack

A reviews widget is built to rank text. A UGC gallery is built to shop media. Review photos need both: verified trust, and a cart action on the tagged post.

- **Same moderation queue.** One place to approve rights, hide spam and check brand safety.
- **Same product tags.** The jacket in the photo links to the jacket PDP.
- **Same analytics.** Clicks and add-to-carts from review media sit next to social posts.

For widget patterns scored on placement and honesty, see [photo review widget examples](/blog/photo-review-widget-examples).

> **Import media reviews into the gallery first:** If your reviews app already holds photos, bring them into the UGC library first. Empty galleries teach the team nothing.

## Before and after the shoppable gallery

**The same customer photo, two outcomes**
Siloed review lightbox:
- Photo opens full screen with stars and text
- No product pins on the image
- Shopper must hunt the belt and bag
- Add to cart stays on the original PDP only
Shoppable review gallery:
- Photo sits in a gallery near the buy button
- Hotspots mark each product in frame
- Cart drawer opens from the post
- Review text and verified mark stay attached

## Hotspots that match how people shop a look

A single "Shop this product" chip works when the photo shows one item. Most fashion and home photos show more. Hotspots mark each item where it sits in the frame.

- **Pin the hero item first.** The SKU on the PDP the gallery is embedded on.
- **Add companion products second.** Belt, bag, shoes, the candle on the side table.
- **Keep pins few.** Three clear hotspots beat eight overlapping dots.
- **Match the variant.** Colour and size in the review should match the tagged variant when you know it.

Idukki help covers [product links and hotspots](/help/add-product-links-and-hotspots) and [add to cart from UGC](/help/add-to-cart-from-ugc).

**Mobile: tap a hotspot, add from the card**
Product: Linen overshirt ($89)
Hotspot: Shop
- Hotspot on the product: Tap opens the product card without leaving the gallery.
- Review stays in view: Stars and a short excerpt sit with the media.
- Add to cart: Cart action from the post, same as other UGC.

## Collect media that is worth tagging

Hotspots need a clear view of the product. Ask for that when you collect.

| Goal | Ask the buyer | Tagging payoff |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Single hero SKU | One clear photo of the item in daylight | One accurate hotspot |
| Full look | Show the outfit from head to toe | Pins for jacket, belt, bag |
| Home product | Show it in the room where you use it | Pins for the item plus nearby SKUs |
| Shade or colour | Stand near a window for one shot | Correct variant on the tag |

_Prompts that produce taggable review photos._

A hosted upload page with a product picker records which item the photo is about. That is the start of a clean tag. See [collect UGC](/collect-ugc).

> **Do not hotspot a guess:** If the photo and review text do not name the SKU, leave the pin off. A wrong product in the cart costs more trust than a missing pin.

## Where the gallery earns its keep

**From review media to a shoppable strip**
1. **Collect or import** — Review form, thank-you upload, or import from your reviews app.
2. **Moderate** — Approve rights-safe media. Hide wrong colour or spam.
3. **Tag and hotspot** — Product tags first, then pins on multi-item photos.
4. **Place the gallery** — Near the buy button or under the description. Skip a reviews-tab-only home.
5. **Measure ATC from posts** — Track add-to-cart from hotspot opens on that gallery.
_Ops order for a fashion or home PDP._

**The rule to use:** A review photo that cannot be shopped is half-finished UGC. Keep the review attached. Pin what is in frame. Place the gallery where the shopper is still deciding.

### Questions store owners ask

**Q: Should every review photo get hotspots?**

A: No. Start with bestsellers and multi-product looks. A single-item photo can use one product tag without pins.

**Q: Do hotspots replace the reviews list?**

A: No. Keep the sortable list for text and filters. The gallery is for media shopping.

**Q: Can we hotspot products we do not sell anymore?**

A: Skip those pins. Or point to the closest current SKU and note the swap if your theme allows it.

**Q: Where do rights fit?**

A: Review uploads through your form already grant display rights you defined. Social posts still need a rights request before you shop them.
