## How to actually know if it is working

The tempting comparison, return rate on orders that touched UGC versus orders that did not, is a trap. Shoppers who engage with a photo gallery or read customer reviews before buying are already a more considered, better-informed segment, and they would likely return less often even with no gallery at all. A cleaner read needs either a holdout, showing the gallery to a comparable slice of traffic and withholding it from another, or a natural experiment: watch the return rate before and after a category-wide rollout, on a category with no other change happening at the same time. Anything less is measuring who converts, not what UGC did to them.
