# Best Shopify apps for social proof in 2026: 13 apps for 7 jobs

Thirteen Shopify apps sorted by the kind of social proof they add. What each does, how to try it, and where the law draws the line. We make Idukki, and say so.

By Rohin Aggarwal · 2026-10-11

A first-time visitor has one question before they buy. Has anyone like me bought this and been glad? Social proof is every way a store answers that. Star ratings, a customer's photo, a badge from a site the shopper already trusts. Some of those answers carry real weight. Some are decoration. A few, the invented ones, now break the law. This list sorts the apps by the answer they give.

**Quick answer**

- The strongest proof comes from real customers: **reviews** and **customer photos and video**.
- For reviews, try Okendo or Yotpo here, or Judge.me and Loox from our conversion list. For photos and video, Idukki (ours) or Tolstoy.
- **Third-party ratings** borrow trust from Trustpilot or Google. **Trust badges** help only when a third party checked something first.
- **Sales popups** are fine when every event is real. Fake reviews are banned in the US since October 2024 and the UK since April 2025.
- Every app has a free plan or trial. Facts checked on each listing and vendor page, 11 October 2026.

Social proof works because people copy people. It works best when the people look like the shopper. Specific evidence beats general praise. A photo of the dress on a similar body says more than five stars. That gives a simple ranking. Proof close to a real customer using the product is worth the most. It also costs more to fake, which is why shoppers trust it.

## How we picked them

- **Sorted by the kind of proof.** Review apps sit with review apps, badges with badges.
- **An official Shopify App Store listing.** Install, billing and removal go through Shopify.
- **A free plan or a free trial,** as the listing or vendor pricing page states.
- **The meter is named:** orders, visitors, notifications, galleries or a flat fee.

Facts come from each app's Shopify App Store listing and the vendor's own pages. We checked them on 11 October 2026. Prices, ratings and review counts are left out. For most apps, the listing and the vendor's page showed different numbers that day. Judge.me and Loox are not repeated here. They are in our [conversion app list](/blog/best-shopify-apps-to-increase-conversion-2026). They are compared line by line in [Judge.me vs Loox vs Okendo](/blog/judge-me-vs-loox-vs-okendo-2026).

## Product reviews: the proof every page needs

Reviews are the baseline. Put the star rating next to the price. Show photo reviews first. Reply to critical reviews in public. A calm reply to a two-star review can build more trust than ten five-star ones.

### Okendo

Okendo's Shopify listing is now "Okendo: Reviews & Loyalty". That describes it well. It sells photo and video reviews and review requests. Loyalty, referrals, quizzes and surveys come alongside. It says it is built exclusively for Shopify. Each product is priced by monthly order bands. Bundles cost less but usually need an annual term. At your order limit, you upgrade or buy top-up order credits. Pages disagree on whether a free tier still exists, so check the live listing.

### Yotpo Product Reviews

Yotpo collects and shows product reviews and photo and video UGC. Its widgets use AI. It connects to Yotpo's own SMS and loyalty products. The free plan covers up to 50 orders a month. It includes automatic review requests, a widget and moderation. Paid plans rise with order volume. Yotpo's own pages showed different entry prices when we checked. We compare the options in [Best Yotpo alternatives](/blog/best-yotpo-alternatives).

## Customer photos and video: proof you can see

A customer's photo answers what a product shot cannot. How big is it really? How does it look on a person? Is the colour true? Check two things before you choose. What the app does to page speed on your theme. And whether you have the customer's permission to use the content.

### Idukki (ours)

We make Idukki, so weigh this accordingly. It collects customer content from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and Threads. It imports reviews from Google, Trustpilot, TripAdvisor and Judge.me. It shows them as shoppable galleries, reels and stories, with products tagged to the cart. Consent is recorded per post, so campaigns only use cleared content. The widget runtime is 79 KB, measured on a production gallery. The free plan covers image galleries. Shoppable video and rights management start on the $45 plan. Billing counts widget impressions.

### Tolstoy

Tolstoy imports video and UGC and publishes shoppable video widgets. They run on the store and in the Shop app. Its free plan mainly covers the Shop app and TikTok Shop. Website widgets get a 30-day publishing trial. It starts when the first widget goes live. After that you need a paid plan, metered by monthly viewers. Our view of the alternatives is in [Best Tolstoy alternatives](/blog/best-tolstoy-alternatives).

## Instagram feeds: proof that people talk about you

A feed of your own Instagram shows the brand is active. A feed of customers' posts shows people use it. That is worth more. Meta shut down the Instagram Basic Display API in December 2024. Since then, feed tools generally need a Business or Creator account. Check the connection requirements before you install.

### Instafeed

Mintt's Instafeed shows Instagram posts and Reels on the store. It has a free plan and a short trial of paid plans. Paid plans are flat fees by tier. Several features are paid only. That includes product tagging, which makes the feed shoppable. Product and collection feeds, multiple feeds and tagged customer posts are paid too.

### Covet

Covet, listed as "Covet Instagram Feed & Reviews", builds shoppable galleries from your profile or hashtags. It also does photo-review galleries and lookbooks. There is no free plan. Every plan has a 14-day trial. The fee depends on how many galleries you run. Removing Covet's branding needs a mid-tier plan. Hotspot tagging is on the top tier.

## Third-party reviews: borrowed trust

A Trustpilot or Google rating carries weight because the store did not host it. Show it where doubt peaks. Put it near the add-to-cart button and in the cart. The footer alone is too late.

### Trustpilot

Trustpilot's official app sends review invitations after each order. It shows TrustBox widgets on the store. Its free plan includes 50 invitations a month and one widget. Paid plans are a Trustpilot subscription, priced per domain. They are billed annually, outside Shopify. Which widgets you get depends on the plan.

### Reputon Google Reviews

Reputon shows your Google Business reviews as badges and carousels. It also helps collect new ones. It has a free trial and no free plan. The fee is flat, with a monthly charge per extra Google location. That adds up for retailers with many locations. Idukki also imports Google reviews, as shoppable content. See [Google reviews as shoppable content](/blog/google-reviews-as-shoppable-content).

## Trust badges: only the earned ones count

A row of payment logos tells a shopper which cards you take. It says nothing about you. Badges carry weight when a third party checked something first. They also need to sit near the moment of doubt. More in [Trust badges vs real customer content](/blog/trust-badges-vs-real-customer-content).

### TrustedSite

TrustedSite was formerly McAfee SECURE. It scans the store for security issues and checks business details. Then it awards certifications such as Certified Secure and Verified Business. The free plan covers up to 500 visits a month. Paid plans are set by monthly visits and climb fast with traffic.

### Avada Boost Sales

Avada's app adds 30 or more payment and checkout badges, or your own. It also has a sales popup, sticky add-to-cart and a free-shipping bar. It is free. The badges are decorative. A "secure checkout" icon verifies nothing. If you turn on its sales popup, read the sales notifications section below.

## Product Q&A: proof that questions get answered

Public answers to real questions count as social proof too. They show other people considered the product. They also show the store replies. Most review apps include a Q&A widget. Judge.me and Okendo both do, so check yours first.

### Asklo

Asklo, from Klevu, answers shoppers' product questions with AI using your product data. It has a small free monthly allowance and a trial of paid plans. Paid plans are metered by AI requests, with overage per request. The listing says Klevu may bill some charges outside your Shopify invoice. Review its answers about your products before you rely on it. A wrong AI answer does more harm than no answer.

## Sales notifications: real events only

"Someone in Leeds just bought this" can reassure a hesitant shopper, if it happened. The FTC's rule on reviews and testimonials took effect on 21 October 2024. It bans fake reviews, fake testimonials and fake social-media indicators in the US. Civil penalties are available. In the UK, fake reviews became a banned practice on 6 April 2025. That is under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. The CMA's guidance says simply asking customers for reviews is fine. The safe rule for popups matches the rule for reviews. Show real events with real numbers. Never show "x people are viewing this" unless they are.

### Fomo

Fomo shows recent-sale, low-stock and review popups. Its free plan is set by notification volume, and paid plans have trials. Paid plans count notifications shown to visitors. Its help pages describe both an automatic upgrade and a pause at the limit. A "limit protection" setting stops surprise upgrades, so switch it on.

### ProveSource

ProveSource shows sale and sign-up popups, review notifications and live visitor counts. It is free for up to 1,000 unique visitors a month, with ProveSource branding. Paid plans count unique visitors and allow unlimited impressions. So the bill follows traffic, whatever your sales do.

## Where to start

1. **Reviews first,** with a request email that asks for a photo.
2. **Customer photos and video next,** on product pages, with permission recorded.
3. **A third-party rating** if yours on Trustpilot or Google is good.
4. **Earned badges and Q&A** where shoppers hesitate: delivery, returns, sizing.
5. **Sales notifications last,** and only with real events.

**The takeaway:** Rank social proof by how close it is to a real customer using the real product. Start with reviews and customer photos. Add borrowed ratings and earned badges next, and popups last. Never invent any of it.

### Questions store owners ask

**Q: What is the best social proof app for Shopify?**

A: Start with a review app: Judge.me, Loox, Okendo or Yotpo. Then add customer photos and video with Idukki, which we make, or Tolstoy. Those come from real customers, so they carry the most weight.

**Q: Are sales popups legal?**

A: Showing real sales is fine. The FTC banned fake reviews and fake social-media indicators from 21 October 2024. The UK banned fake reviews from 6 April 2025. Show only real events with real numbers.

**Q: Do trust badges increase conversion?**

A: Earned badges, where a third party checked something, can reassure shoppers at the point of doubt. Decorative payment icons say little about the store. Real reviews and photos usually carry more weight than either.

**Q: Why are there no prices in this list?**

A: For most apps, the listing and the vendor's pricing page disagreed that day. We list what each bill counts instead. Open the listing for the current price.
